Twelve months ago I was on the verge of burning out. I'd had to go through several avenues of appeal for my daughter's NDIS package and I was unable to find a suitable short term accommodation service so I could have some much needed respite. My daughter was 21 years old, quite complex, high needs, challenging behaviour, severe ID, legally blind, and level 3 autism. Despite all this she knows what she wants and doesn't want and will let me know in no uncertain terms whether she wants to go somewhere or be around someone. Finding suitable staff is very difficult.
Through my searching I was given another lead to try, Ascent Health. I gave them a call, trying not to get my hopes up. Lisa sounded great so we agreed to meet at their respite house.
Within 5 minutes of meeting Lisa and Jezz I knew we'd struck gold. Cody took to them straight away and I could immediately see by the way they interacted with her that these people were something special.
We now use Ascent Health not only for STA, but also for support hours 3 to 4 days a week.
Often we have a "honeymoon" period after which Cody will decide she doesn't want a particular SW. This hasn't happened, in fact it's quite the opposite with Cody and we often joke that she would love to go live with them permanently!
I really can't recommend Ascent Health highly enough. I trust them with my precious and vulnerable daughter, they do so much fun stuff with her that SHE chooses, you can't get better than that.
